2003-07-21 - 9:13 a.m. Been away for a few days...shame on me, I know. Last week I got to have an overnight at the hospital, full of the fun things that happen there. Okay, so there weren't any fun things that happened but I did get to share a room (for a while) with a 15 year old girl who got shot by some gang-bangers. She was shot accidentally, but the 34 year old man who was trying to mediate had a clip emptied into him and was in intensive care. They transferred her in from University at about 6am and her mother and sister cranked up the tv so loudly that people in the hall could hear it, and that's with using those little personal speaker things AND had about a million visitors who came and wouldn't leave. Needless to say, I got no rest until my nurse pulled the room separator all the way around and eventually smuggled me out of there as soon as another room opened up. 2 IVs and a few bad meals later, I got to go home all thanks due to Dr Hong who saw me up and around and thought I looked like I was doing well so relayed the information to the charge nurse who called the doc on call and told him what Dr Hong said. I still have the trots but I'm not puking anymore so that's an improvement. I spent the weekend in C-town, where The G is from originally, with his family and one of his aunt's family. The thing you have to understand about this particular family is that they eat late and visit long. OFTEN. Anyway, there was tornadic activity pretty close to where we were, so everyone was up at the house and we were collecting hail the size of ping pong balls and we didn't get to eat until late and The G and I were damn tired by the time we got back to Omaha around 11:30. I'm straying from my original thought here...anyway, we spent the afternoon down at the lake and I got too much sun. My face is red and tight and my upper back and shoulders are a nice (color-wise) pink-just enough to hurt. Even my lips have been burned. Damned expired sunscreen....
